Sample Programme Overview

Difficult Conversations

We collaborate closely with you to tailor the Difficult Conversations programme to the needs and aptitudes of your team members. A typical one-day session could encompass the following:

Module Breakdown

1. Understanding Difficult Conversations: This introductory module will help Learners grasp the nature and importance of Difficult Conversations. It distinguishes between constructive discussions and confrontational dialogues, offering a structure to approach these conversations.

2. Psychological Foundations: Gain an understanding of the psychology behind Difficult Conversations. Learn about emotional intelligence, and how recognising emotional triggers can pave the way for a more fruitful conversation.

3. Practical Tools and Frameworks: Master techniques and frameworks that help navigate tough discussions with tact and effectiveness. Live Action Case Study will offer hands-on experience in real-world situations.

4. Managing Emotions: Equip your team with emotional regulation tools to manage the stress and anxiety that often accompany Difficult Conversations. Learn how to transform tension into an element of constructive dialogue.

5. Sustaining Progress and Follow-up: Combine the skills acquired to maintain open lines of communication after the Difficult Conversation has taken place. Explore methods to ensure ongoing dialogue and strategies for dealing with recurrent issues.

Our programme empowers your team to handle challenging conversations effectively, leading to improved working relationships and a more cohesive working environment.

More Details

Q. How do you make this engaging and practical?

A. We are specialists at using Live Case Study .. experienced Actor Facilitators who bring situations and issues to life for your delegates to learn and practice in a safe and supported way.

Q. How many Learners can we "fit in" to each session?

A. Entirely up to you.. BUT ... for optimal chances to engage and participate we would suggest 8-16 Learners per programme.

Q. I am low on confidence with these sort of conversations ... can this REALLY be taught?

A. Absolutely. We have some simple techniques that anyone, with a little practice, can try out and see improvements quickly.

Q. Is this Face to Face or Virtual?

A. We can deliver either... for the record, Virtual is very good and for many people a perfect way to take this programme.

Q. How much can we tweak the content to match our requirements?

A. Within reason as much as you want.  We can link Difficult Conversations to performance at work, personal issues, Drug and Alcohol abuse or whatever you need.

Q. What seniority and level of ability is this programme suitable for?

A. We have experience helping all levels and abilities ... we will tailor this to suit the Learners.

How true is THIS of your Leader's behaviour...

Instead of having the Difficult Conversation NOW and getting the "problem" sorted, they do one of these three things...

Ignore

Many managers choose to ignore problems thinking either they will resolve themselves, or that the individual will suddenly "get it". That rarely happens.

Joking

The next approach for managers is to make jokes or light hearted comments about the problem.  This too rare works.

HR

When all else fails the manager then decides to ask HR to have the conversation for them.  This undercuts the managers own authority leaving the employee with the feeling of the "Personnel Police"!

It's time for your managers to have their own Difficult Conversations!
